What are my chances at University of Washington?
Cumulative (freshman, sophomore, junior) GPA: 3.2 (explained below)
SAT scores: 800 reading, 740 math, 710 writing (2250 overall)
ECs: Debate Club, Key Club, Track, guitar, volunteered at a hospital over the summer.
AP: APUSH and AP English in junior year, scored 4 on both exams.
AP AmeriGov, AP Literature, AP Calculus, and AP Physics B this year (senior).
During freshman year and the first half of sophomore year, I was a huge slacker. Upon realizing I want to go to a state university, I got my act together. I had a 4.0 throughout the second half of sophomore year and all of junior year, but when averaged it still comes out pitifully low.
With what I have so far, and assuming I do well on my essay, what do you think my chances are?
Well, your GPA is a bit low for an elite school (Harvard). But for a state school, I think your chances are excellent. As long as you don’t have a criminal history and your teachers don’t hate you, I would think you are an automatic admit at a school like UW, especially if you are in-state. Do a reasonable job on your app and you should be good.
