Should I join marching band?
I love drum set And told myself I will only play drumline if I can play quad/tenors… I was only offered bass drum.. I am gonna get private set lessons.. Should I still join marching band??? I think it’s rime consuming and don’t enjoy it that much
Marching band is so incredible. I’ve been playing trumpet since 6th grade, and started playing in the marching band my freshman year of high school. I am now a senior in college and still play in the marching band. Honestly, it’s probably one of the best decisions of my life. My grades are so much better in the fall (have been since high school) because marching band forces me to be more organized. You meet a ton of people with a common interest (most of my friends are in band).
You will also get a bunch of great opportunities by being in band. In high school, my band went to Italy for a couple of weeks. In college, I have been to numerous away football games and bowl games with the band, I have performed at the Indianapolis 500 parade and race every May for the past 3 years, I have been to China and performed on the Great Wall, and this November I will be marching in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York! Seriously, try it! And if it turns out that it’s not for you, then you can at least say that you tried. But you’ll never know until you give it a shot.
