A Duo Of Ways To Teach Your Toddler To Go Down Stairs
Many parents worry about their toddlers when they are going down the stairs. When toddlers go down stairs, many parents have concerns over their safety. Stairs are dangerous for children, if they fall, they may hurt themselves. Seeing your child in pain can be an extremely distressing experience.
This article will outline two techniques to teach your toddler to go down the stairs in your house. You can then forget about worrying for them every time you hear them coming down the stairs.
1. Crawl Backwards
Toddlers can often be over-confident when it comes to stairs. They’ll descend them any which-way they like, with little consideration for their own safety.
The best thing to do is to teach them to crawl backwards down the stairs – the opposite of how they crawl up them. You will find toddlers can understand this really well and rarely go too fast.
Even when they become accomplished at crawling backwards down the stairs, you should always stay just in front of them. This way you’ll be ready to stabilise them should they start to go too fast and lose their balance.
2. On their bottoms
The other option you have is to teach them to go down on their bottoms. Many choose this option because it allows them to see where they are going. Those with reservations about their child’s balance will want to teach them this method.
When you do this, let them slide down a step at a time. Let them grab the stair spindles as a means of guiding themselves.
If you want your toddler to be safe, you should teach them one of these two techniques. They will be descending your stairs safely in no time.
