Should My Kid Take Guitar or Piano Lessons?
There are few things a parent can give to their children that will make as much difference in a child’s life as music lessons can. These things include good health, proper education, healthy environment, and everything else that could contribute to his wellbeing. Along with the material needs you provide for your child, giving opportunities to explore creativity should not be optional. It is a rare joy for the parent who can watch their child become more accomplished at playing the guitar or learning any new artistic skill?
Speaking of guitar lessons or any other musical instrument lessons for this matter, they are a proven beneficial way to enrich the development of a child. Most guitar lessons for beginners courses are suitable for children to learn to play the guitar. The skills that are enhanced through music or art lessons include increased abilities in mathematics, concentration, focus, plus a healthier sense of self esteem and confidence. There is no doubt as to the advantages of learning to play a musical instrument.
Several important considerations need to be made when choosing which instrument your child should learn first (such as convenience, price, size). For a younger child – especially a preteen – there are 3/4 sized guitars made especially for smaller hands to learn to play the instrument. Learning to play the piano is a great choice if you can afford it! But if you feel you can’t invest what is needed with other types of lessons such as piano lessons due to the aforementioned factors, the best choice for your child would be a guitar lessons course.
With the many choices of musical instruments, why would the guitar be a good choice? Budget-wise, guitars are not as expensive as other musical instruments, such as violin saxophone or piano. As your child gains knowledge and experience with their music skills, they will have those to develop as they grow up. With guitar lessons you don’t have to pay for a professional piano tuner or for the cost of buying or moving a piano.
Another factor is that guitars can be played anywhere. Kids love exploration and new things and they like being able to share what they’ve learned. Guitar practice and sharing a song can take place at school, on the playground, at a backyard barbecue or outside while enjoying an inspirational view of nature. This is not possible with a piano, which is huge and bulky, not to mention the fact that it takes up a lot of space inside the house.
The cost of a professional music teacher can be more than worth the price, but there are other great choices available for lessons such as online videos. There are also several good guitar lesson DVDs for your child to learn from. Kids are fast learners and they can easily pick up by watching demos. Guitar lessons may be easier to learn with videos and DVDs than piano lessons. One way parents can have more input in their child’s guitar lessons is by purchasing a program that has teacher’s materials so that there is a lesson plan to follow. I can recommend homeschool guitar lessons for parents who want to keep track of their child’s progress (these types of lessons provide teacher and student lesson books to help you).
Most kids are inpired to learn to play the guitar because of the many celebrity musicians they know about and idolize. Kids who learn one musical instrument can easily learn a second one and add to their musical knowledge – many start with guitar and later learn to play the piano.
Kids who have multiple areas of interest that they can develop make for wholer, happier adults. This is the best that parents can wish for their children. So give your child the gift of music with kids’ guitar lessons. You may never know if your kid has a talent for playing an instrument unless you take the first step toward getting them some lessons.
