Who Would Win The 2012 Election If It Were Held Today?

Considering the 2012 election for the Presidency is approximately just over a year from now, itÕs definitely the time to glance at the ever-changing pack of likely candidates from the Conservative side that will try to win in the race against President Obama.

Mitt Romney looks more and more like a favorite as a Republican in the 2012 election . Once a popular Massachusetts governor and 08 Presidential hopeful, Mitt Romney at age 63 is young and vibrant, intelligent, and brings a remarkable history to the table. On the downside, his Mormonism along with the Massachusetts health care law (which is much like President Obama’s maligned health reform bill that just passed) might turn off enough voters away from Romney and to President ObamaÕs side.

Sarah Palin burst onto the scene during the last presidential cycle, even though she successfully animated the GOP base, she also made a whole variety of now famous gaffes. Unfortunately, these mistakes overshadowed whatever merits she brought to the table, and like Dan Quayle 20 years earlier, Sarah Palin is considered by many to be branded Ð and maybe even unfairly -, for being less than intelligent. The fact that she quit her Alaska GovernorÕs job halfway through her term also doesnÕt say much to voters about her dedication to holding and performing the duties of a higher office. Taking all of this into consideration, plus her clear fame-mongering, it seems less and less likely that sheÕll actually make a 2012 election bid.

Mike Huckabee is an additional popular name rolling around for the 2012 election. This former AR governor and also a dark horse 2008 candidate that did not receive the nomination, Huckabee was the GOP frontrunner for some time during the 2008 campaign, even without the same big budgets enjoyed by some of the other candidates that year. Currently the host of his own show on FOX News, Huckabee remains well-liked by the GOP base and he has demonstrated his power to run a highly effective campaign. Successful fundraising stands out as the key to get a Huckabee Presidential run.

Newt Gingrich has become a GOP mainstay for more than 2 decades, most notably during his tenure of Speaker of the House of Representatives during the Clinton Administration. Seen as visionary, well-educated and goal-minded, Gingrich’s personal life continues to be somewhat marred by a few extra-marital affairs and divorces along with his polarizing status with the American population at large. That said, Newt Gingrich is also a skilled grassroots organizer even though he has never run for President, his candidacy is looking more likely and more probably by the minute.

Ron Paul, now at the age of 75, is the oldest of all of the likely 2012 election candidates, but he has made two other bids for the job, once as a Libertarian in 1988 and the next time as a Republican in 2008. Unfortunately, most of Ron Paul’s platform are looked upon as being too conservative, even for conservatives. WhatÕs more, many have observed that his rabid supporters can be more intimidating than helpful to the campaign.

ItÕs definitely still to far ahead of time to be able to say with confidence who’ll emerge as the right-wing choice for the 2012 election. Still, it will end up being an intriguing election cycle for sure.
