Mex Accordion

I have a question about tex mex accordion! Someone please help me!?

I currently play the keyboard accordion. However, I can’t really do some of the techniques that the professionals do b/c they use the diatonic button accordion.

My question is: If I were to switch from the keyboard accordion to the button accordion, is it like switching from the saxophone to the bass? What I’m saying is…will it be too difficult for me b/c it will be like learning a new instrument?

Thank you!

No, it is not too difficult. There are lots of folks that play several different kinds of accordions. The diatonic takes some getting used to as the notes are different on the push than on the pull. Very much the way a harmonica works. Those people that play by ear seem to get it faster than the play-by-music-notation only group. I have known several talented people that play the piano accordion – both stradella and free base as well as the diatonic, Bayan and concertina. Now that takes concentration!

Good luck!
