Is it too early to start thinking about where to go to college?
I am almost 14 years old and I already know where I am going to college. A lot of people probably think that I’ll forget about it in a week and not even care about what I was going to pursue. But I’ve been thinking about this for months, and I just know that it is what I am going to do in life. I am going to be a professional cellist, studying at Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester. Does this sound really far-fetched? I’ve been playing the cello for 4 years now, and I have always been the best in my school at it. I’m also the only cellist in my entire district that was accepted into the PMEA Honors Orchestra, and I don’t even take private lessons. Grades won’t be an issue, I already take 3 honors courses, and receive B’s and A’s in them (the rest of my classes I have all A’s).I’ve even looked at summer camps for music/orchestra to go to. Does this seem really far-fetched?
No, not at all.
To be competitive, its better that you start working now to make it easier to be accepted when you decide to apply.
Work hard, study hard, practice a lot and be involved in school. Do as many programs as you can in the summers and in the year dealing with the Cello. You want the schools to see how devoted and serious you. Your going to be competing with others who have playing since they could walk and talk, so, good luck.
