How did Eddie Van Halen, Slash, etc. learn to play the guitar not understanding how you can read music?
Guitar music is super readable but very difficult to play. Guitar music is designed in what is known as “Tabliture”. It’s essentially an image with amounts of where to place your fingers. It’s not necessary to have the ability to read music the traditional method to read tabliture. Eddie and Slash (Saul Hudson) had influences that vary from Elvis towards the past of punk (Ramones, the Clash, The United kingdom Subs) to Neil Youthful and Eric Clapton.
