Would Jesus preach, “No need to repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand”?
Some of our evangelical friends teach an easy gospel where one only need believe in their theology about Jesus. To join the kingdom of heaven, do we have to follow Jesus’ directions, beginning with repentance?
Consider every form of transportation and most forms of habitation. All have standards for remaining with them. Airlines now are going slightly crazy with Gestapo-like tactics of rules for traveling on their planes. Apartments have standards and rules for remaining in their buildings. Even home owners frequently have building or property owners association standards for upkeep on your home in their community. You may own a car, but when you drive it, you must abide by the rules and laws of the city, county and state. The point of all this is–all things come with conditions that must be met.
Why then, would God’s Kingdom be any different? Why should we expect God’s Kingdom with all of its blessings for humanity, just let every piece of dirt into its clean home? Living under that government’s rule is a great privileged honor, whether in heaven or upon the earth when it extends its control.
Everyone here has their dwelling and fix it according to their needs. Cleaning for a few of us, is an option. You are pleased with it. Now do you see by any stretch of imagination leaving your front door unlocked and open when you leave home? A hundred years ago, leaving doors unlocked was common, but never open. Why? One never knows what might wander in.
Now why should God or his son, Jesus, who is now King of that Kingdom, gone to the trouble of kicking Satan and all of the demon angels out of heaven effectively cleaning it up, then allow even the worst the human race have to offer into that rule? It would not.
There are standards God and Jesus has for living under that Kingdom rule. Either obey them or disobedient ones will not get in. As that Kingdom will rule the entire planet, there is no place to go other than to die. Those standards are not difficult. They require gaining accurate knowledge first to understand those standards and why they must be kept. Repenting of your former conduct. Dedication of your life to God. Lastly to carry out that dedication by doing the will of God obediently.
