Which one of these drum instructional dvd series is better- The Drumming System with Mike Michalkow or Learn?
and Master Drums with Dann Sherrill? Both systems have gotten pretty good reviews from what I have seen. The Drumming System is a bit more expensive than the other. However, it is mentioned in the description for The Drumming System that it teaches all various kinds of time signatures from 5/4 to 7/8 to 9/8 beats. Does the Learn and Master Drums series also teach these kind of time signatures within the material or is that only found in The Drumming System? Please tell me which one of these is better and whether or not the extra money is indicative of a better system.

Both are very very good, but have different objectives in mind. The Drumming System is far more comprehensive and technical of the two sets. Learn and Master Drums is intended more for those who want to “play songs now”.
Both sets offer great tuition and the production values are OUTSTANDING, but they just go in slightly different directions with their respective instruction.
As far as the extra money indicating “better”. No. What the extra money indicates is that the course does include more material and the instruction is ultimately deeper than it’s competitor. This means more production time and expense was involved. If both prices are viewed on a “price per lesson” basis, they are nearly identical.
Both are good and ABSOLUTELY worth the money spent. The question is: In which direction do you wish to take your playing? Quick results or longer term learning?
I ended up going with the Drumming System for one reason alone:
The Plan. The Drumming System includes information on practicing. What order in which to learn each aspect of the music as well as HOW to train it. My goal was to learn music as well as performance, and still is.
Again, not necessarily a better set, it was simply the set I needed at the time in order to reach a particular goal.
I have seen and used the Learn and Master Drums and I liked it a lot. I would have been happy with it, I think.
Both instructors are very good at what they do. In addition to being professional musicians they are professional instructors. They both really know how to get the concepts and material across to everyone. Both have good energy without being bombastic. The lessons in both sets were never boring. This is saying something considering that when I viewed Mr. Sherrill’s set, I had already gone through those lessons. I still wasn’t bored!
Decide what you want to play and go for it. Either one will help you make yourself quite happy.
