Can anyone tell me some good bluegrass pieces for banjo?
I’m thinking of starting banjo, but really want to get it in my ear first. I’d also like to know some good cheap beginning bluegrass banjos and where to buy them
1) One of the easiest songs to learn that can sound good when you play it is Cripple Creek. Also, Foggy Mountain Breakdown is a relatively simple tune, even though it sounds complicated. Try this: http://bluegrassbanjo.org/a-d.html
You will need to install Tabview…it’s free. I would strongly recommend that you buy some instructional cd’s. I recommend Bill Keith because he focuses on playing by ear and really breaks down playing technique. That’s how I learned. As far as banjo, you should start with a beginner banjo in the range of $100 to $300. You can find one at pawn shops, garage sales, or the internet. Try www.music123.com. As you start playing better, upgrade you banjo to match your playing skills. Have fun.
