What would be a good beginning acoustic guitar?
I’m thinking of buying a Baby Taylor, but I am open to other kinds, too.
Hi Audrey,
Ive played acoustic guitar for many years and I own both a Taylor and a Stonebridge which are both solid wood guitars and cost quite a bit.
My daughter and I went to audition guitars for her to start with, and I ended up with a Takamine 260. This guitar sells for about $250. It is obviously not a solid wood guitar, but it is a great starting guitar.
I agree with the others about the baby taylor. There really is no reason for a 3/4 guitar, unless of course you are five years old or less. You will eventually outgrow it. So why bother? However, you are very close to being able to buy other Taylors. You might find a full size Taylor for 400-500.
Otherwise, the Takamine is a very good beginner guitar. It is made well, has a very playable neck, sounds ok and even has the electronics in case you ever want to play for an audience.
I edited this answer because I wanted to suggest an excellent guitar. The Seagull S6. It is pretty much a solid wood guitar with a beautiful sound and playability. It sells for about $350 and it really is a bargain at that price.
Decisions, decisions. Good luck
